Made-To-Order product customization at the C!Print show
Personnalisation produit en 3D
From 3D product customization to on-demand production – discover the C!Factory!
L' C!Print visual communication and graphics trade show was looking to create a space where visitors could find out more about product customization, web-to-print technologies, and how to automate and scale made-to-order workflows.
To bring this concept to life, Emersya teamed up with a number of leading industrial partners to set up a Web-to-Print micro factory for customized basketball jerseys. Together, we created a complete textile production line on a 70m² booth, right in the middle of the trade show!
As a result, the booth took visitors on an immersive journey through the different stages of on-demand production — from printing to the cutting and sewing of the custom garment.
Using the Emersya Platform, we prepared an exclusive Interactive 3D personalization experience for the C!Factory. This empowered visitors to create their own personalized basketball jersey online, in real-time 3D. The online 3D customization experience was directly linked to the production line, in order to streamline and automate the printing, cutting, and finishing process.
A unique product customization experience
At the C!Factory, visitors used a large tablet to visualize and choose the colors, logos, and custom text to apply to their jerseys in Interactive 3D. Specifically, they could personalize each of the seven pattern pieces that make up the jersey, choosing from options including:
- la couleur de base
- la couleur secondaire
- la couleur du logo et des textes
- la conception graphique
- le nom du joueur
- le numéro du joueur
Once satisfied with their design, they entered their details to place the order. The production team could access all orders in real time through the Order Management system on the Emersya Platform.
Each order included not only a summary of the selected options and custom text, but also a preview of the customer’s design — as well as a ready-to-print PDF file!
An automated Made-To-Order production line
Following the customization process, visitors were able to follow, in real time, the end-to-end process of made-to-order manufacturing:
- First, Emersya’s Order Management system generated the PDF print file.
- Then, an Epson SureColor printer printed the design after it was processed by a Caldera RIP.
- Next, the dDruid IoT Platform automated the production line and sent the print files and specifications directly to the machines — eliminating the need for manual setup.
- After printing, a calendar heat press machine (supplied by Monti Antonio) transferred the design onto the jersey fabric.
- Subsequently, an automated ZUND laser cutter cut out the pattern pieces from the laid-out fabric.
- Finally, seamstresses from APF (the French association for people with disabilities) sewed the pattern pieces together using Frobert sewing machines.
Emersya is proud to have taken part in this exciting project, helping C!Print demonstrate a real-life example of an Industry 5.0 micro-factory at its expo.
Over the course of the two-day trade show, we produced 150 jerseys — all while giving visitors a clear idea of what’s possible with Web-to-Print technology.
